Dear Bruno, thank you for your vote and for rising this issue. According to the "Oxford Companion to theatre and performance" Opera should be put inside theatre, but I agree with you that many user would look for it inside "music". How about putting it in both cathegories? We are also working to a "narrower" level on a "genre" list were you will find a "musical theatre" cathegory: we are going to use both for Opera and Cabaret. The cathegory "Performance Art" istead, would be used for performances such as happenings. Please feel free to add any definitions/advices/references about how to classify Opera.
thank you for the comment, Lotte. And thank you to IKP and UCLM who already answered. Hope other content partners will take a look to the excel file (where they will find Lotte's suggestion as well)and vote as soon as possible... Come on guys, we need your feedback!!
This is a re-post from what I wrote in my previous email:

I think the PICO list (option B) fits the best with our collection, but of course I don't know how this works for everyone else. I also quite like the International Index to Performing Arts ProQuest list (except the 'Video' category, which seems a bit vague). I would maybe describe the PICO list a bit more generic and combine it a bit with the ProQuest list like this:

• Cinema
• Circus
• Dance
• Mime
• Music
• Performance Art
• Puppetry
• Radio and Television
• Theatre

But again, I'm not a performing arts expert and am just looking at our content selection and basing the list above on this.

Thanks for all the work!
As IKP we vote for Topics classification. Thank you for great work Irene!
Thanks for your work Irene and all the other contributors. I think both Topic's classification are ok (the second is B&G proposal) but I miss opera somewhere... are you considering it inside Performance art? inside music??
Dear Bruno, thank you for your vote and for rising this issue. Opera has both theatrical and musical elements, so that I would put it in both Theatre and Music. We are also working to a "narrower" level on a "genre" list were you will find a "musical theatre" cathegory: we are going to use it both for Opera and Cabaret. The cathegory "Performance Art" istead, would be used for performances such as happenings. Please feel free to indicate any definitions/advices/references about how to classify Opera.
